Communications Major Approved

ALUMNI HALL — A new major in communications has been approved by the Board of Trustees and begins this fall, college president Fr. Jonathan DeFelice, O.S.B., announced on Wednesday.

The Trustees were the one remaining hurdle before the major would officially be opened to students, The Crier reported in December.

“By taking an interdisciplinary, liberal arts approach to communication in its many forms – written, oral and visual – we will be preparing students for a wide variety of pursuits,” assistant professor of English Sherry R. Shepler, Ph.D., said in a statement on Wednesday. “Furthermore, the availability of internships with the news media, ad agencies, business and other organizations will allow students to marry the theoretical understanding they gain in the classroom with hands on application.”
